Is Your Website Even Showing Up? Here’s What Most DIY Builders Won’t Tell You

Let me hit you with a hard truth:
If your website isn’t indexed on Google, it basically doesn’t exist.

I’ve lost count of how many DIY websites I’ve audited that look decent enough on the surface—maybe even cute—but are completely invisible online. Especially ones built with GoDaddy, which (surprise!) doesn’t walk you through the real steps of getting your site recognized by Google.

So if you’ve been wondering why your traffic is flatlined or why people can’t “just Google you” and find your business... this might be why.

👻 Here’s the deal:

There are three tools that all business owners should be using—and understanding the difference between them matters:

✅ Google Business Profile

This is your map listing. It shows your hours, reviews, photos, and lets you pop up in “near me” searches.

You need this to:

  • Appear on local map searches

  • Build credibility through reviews

  • Show basic info when people Google your name directly

But it doesn’t help your actual website get crawled or show up organically in search results.

❌ Google Search Console (aka, the one you're probably not using)

This tool is what tells Google your website exists. It allows you to:

  • Submit your site for indexing

  • Monitor search traffic and visibility

  • Get alerts about crawl errors or site issues

If your site isn’t submitted to Search Console, Google might never find you. Period.

📊 Google Analytics

This one shows what’s happening after someone finds you—who’s visiting, how long they stay, where they came from. But it doesn’t get you found.

So what does this mean for your website?

If you built your site DIY-style (GoDaddy, Wix, Squarespace, etc.), there’s a very real chance that:

  • You never submitted it to Google Search Console

  • It’s not indexed correctly (or at all)

  • You're missing opportunities to show up in local or organic search

And if that’s the case? You’ve basically printed a thousand flyers and locked them in a filing cabinet no one has the key to.

🛠️ What should you do?

  1. Check your indexing status
Google your site URL like this:
    site:yourdomain.com
If no pages show up, that’s a red flag.

  2. Set up Google Search Console
You’ll need to verify ownership and submit your sitemap. Not sure how? That’s where we come in.

  3. Audit your site
Even if it’s indexed, is it optimized? Are your page titles, meta descriptions, and on-page keywords working for you—or against you?

👻 Don’t Let Your Site Be a Digital Ghost

You didn’t invest time and money into a website for it to hide in a dark corner of the internet.

At Creative Ghost, we make sure your site doesn’t just look good—it actually gets seen. That includes full indexing, local optimization, SEO structuring, and making sure your site is talking to both people and robots in all the right ways.
